HOW VICEROY GOT STARTED

In September of 2003, I attended a dog show in Edmonton and was introduced to a wonderful woman named Anita Johnson. Anita, a confirmation judge also runs the Edmonton Kennel Club rescue and works very hard at trying to place unfortunate animals in loving homes. I explained to Anita that I had become completely enamoured by the Pekingese breed and that I was looking for one. Anita had an adult female at the rescue (papers and all) and asked me if I would be interested. I told her I was, and after an interview with Anita and an introduction to “Fizzy", I came home with my lovely girl. There was only one stipulation: I had to show her at least once.  Anita understood that both Fizzy and I had never done this before and was willing to help us.

Seven months later, with Fizzy in full, beautiful coat and me with a bad case of “nerves”, we both entered the ring for the first time. Fizzy showed beautifully and took Best of Breed. She even beat out a AM/CAN multiple best in show champion that day. Three weekends later. Fizzy became my first champion (see picture) and I was “bitten” with the show bug.  And the rest, they say, is history!

Special thanks to Judge Patricia Fitzsimmons (left) for recognizing  Fizzy’s great qualities and potential and giving us both a much appreciated boost to continue on in the dog show community.

Today, I have a select, little kennel in Alberta, Canada. I show throughout the spring, summer and fall show seasons.  I breed only  to do my part in preserving and  improving the Pekingese breed.  Occasionally, I have show and pet puppies available. (inquiries welcome).

Fizzy’s championship win.  Talk about an improvement in grooming.

You learn quick in this business.
